Activity 1: You are going to learn about Small Basic environment.
The image on the left offers a short and concise definition of a program. You need to make sense of that definition. Is it clear to you? If not ask the teacher for clarifications.
What about a programming language? Can you explain what it is and state its purpose? You need to have an understanding of it.
TIP: These ideas you will need to record in your blog entry
for today's lesson.
Small Basic is a programming language. Can you explain why? There are many other programming languages around, can you name few? Do an online search about other programming languages. How many can you name?
Activity 2: Let’s explore the different elements of the environment where you write and run your Small Basic programs.
You can open and work with multiple Editor windows at one time.
The Editor window that contains the program you are currently working with is the active Editor.
You can indent your program code more consistently by highlighting it, right-clicking it, and then clicking Format Program.
You can run your program either by clicking Run on the Toolbar or by pressing F5 on the keyboard.
In the next lesson, you will analyse a program in detail to learn more about it.
Code:
TextWindow.WriteLine("Hello, World!")
You should save your program frequently so that you do not lose your work if the power fails or your computer suddenly shuts down.
Code:
TextWindow.WriteLine("Greetings to All")
